Zer Erdoğan

Zer Erdoğan is an Istanbul-based street and documentary photographer whose work is deeply rooted in observing people, everyday life, and the quiet stories found in ordinary moments. Born in Elbistan, Türkiye, and raised in Bremen, Germany, Erdoğan grew up between different cultures and languages. This experience became an important part of her visual perspective, allowing her to approach people and places with curiosity, sensitivity, and an outsider’s eye. She studied German Language Education at Marmara University and worked in education before photography gradually became a central part of her life. Erdoğan’s photography is primarily concerned with people. She is drawn to gestures, expressions, body language, and those brief moments that can reveal something beyond what is immediately visible. Children and older people frequently appear in her work, reflecting her interest in memory, vulnerability, experience, and the passage of time. She works in both colour and black and white, with monochrome playing a particularly important role in her portrait and street photography. Her work has been presented in international exhibitions, photography festivals, and artistic projects. Alongside her own photographic practice, Erdoğan is passionate about building creative communities. She is the founder of @mystreet_bnw and @mystreet_women, platforms that bring photographers together and help increase the visibility of women and emerging voices in photography. For Zer Erdoğan, photography is a way of seeing, remembering, and connecting. Her images invite viewers to pause for a moment and find their own story within the frame.
